What is cultural heritage tourism?Cultural heritage tourism is traveling to experience the places, artifacts and activities that authentically represent the stories and people of the past and present. It includes cultural, historic and natural resources. What Makes a Cultural Heritage Tourism Program Successful?The National Trust pioneered the process for heritage tourism programs in 1990 with a three-year initiative working with 16 pilot areas in four states. Out of this effort, five guiding principles and four steps were developed for successful and sustainable cultural heritage tourism.
